Guild Spotlight: Rich Mahogany

It’s been a while, but I have a guild to present you with, the most honourable Rich Mahogany [HoM], or as they may be using in Guild Wars 2, Halls of Rich Mahogany [HoM]. Their leader contacted me shortly after my initial post, and I was delighted to see their website featured exactly the kinds of attributes I wish to encourage in guilds for our illustrious-soon-to-be-released game. A long track record behind them in terms of Guild Wars, with expansions into other games, including a Steam group, HoM really left a lasting impression on me.

“The guild that plays together, stays together.”

That sentence alone attracted my interest, in so far as so many guilds in Guild Wars now focus very much on equipping new members with the best possible hero builds and letting them fly. Impersonal as much as it is frustrating for those who wish for actual interactions in their games. HoM has a long standing track record from 2008, an excellent year in Guild Wars. They’ve developed a wonderfully strong core of talented players who all genuinely have enjoyed working with each other.

From the time I spent with Mahogany in the last Beta weekend, I took note of how much of an essence of fun they imbue into their game play together. Instead of camping different locations in Guild Wars 2, they met up in Lions Arch and proceeded to explore the town together, taking note of things that were fun or interesting.

To the gamer who likes to stop and take a long look around, I’d suggest this guild. They are very relaxed, and very respectful both in-game and on their voice chat channel. A very international guild, they have players in almost every timezone from what I could tell. Their size was also impressive, as I’ve seen guilds or alliance from Guild Wars come over very much in shambles in the beta weekend, HoM ended up being very well represented on their server, which is Lakeside County. If there’s a change there, you can check out:

Included on the website is their future plans for the guild, including a brief description of what sort of players they’ll look for for officers. Don’t be too quick though, they have an officer heavy guild at launch, they won’t be looking for more immediately!

So, my ultimate suggestions: Those players who enjoy a nice, family atmosphere, an unintimidating first time on Team Speak, and who like to have massive amounts of relaxed fun while they play, this is the guild for you!
