This week’s column would normally be shorter than usual, as so much of the new content this week is based on last weekend’s closed beta event, which we covered in our Beta Aggregation post. However, due to a technical glitch, we were unable to continue updating that post as we’d planned, so some of the beta material is collected here instead. I should apologize in advance to anyone I’ve missed this time around. Between a hectic schedule and technical difficulties connecting to our site, I dropped at least one entry from the Blog Carnival post and undoubtedly will have missed some of the many post-beta articles that didn’t make it into the aggregation page.
Once upon a time (in the dim, distant past of three months ago), I could actually read just about everything that got posted about Guild Wars 2, watch all the videos, and listen to (most of) the podcasts. That was then, this is now. It’s as the old joke about getting an education at MIT put it: like trying to take a drink from a firehose.

“In the deepest waters of the sea, another dragon breathed, twisting the waters themselves into tentacled horrors that rose from every lake and river of the land.”

The Elder Dragon of the deepest sea is an elusive one. Despite being a creature of unspeakable horror like the others, the people of Tyria have seen little influence from this one. Because of this lack of contact, its true name is unknown and in turn some scholars believe that it does not even truly exist – being a mere fabrication or false statement by Decimus of the Durmand Priory. As such, even the current primary source on this matter, the volume Movement of the World, is being constantly challenged and even revised by the Durmand Priory. Another outcome produced by this lack of knowledge has led to some scholars jokingly referring to this beast as “Bubbles,” as silly as it may be.

Thanks to everyone who took part in our third blog carnival. We’ve had some great submissions and after reading through them, I’m sure you’ll agree that Guild Wars 2 offers very wide scope to allow us to create characters that are different from everyone else’s character.
We had some technical issues getting this post put together and published … well, more accurately I had technical issues. While I was working on updating our Beta Aggregation page on Tuesday, I had an internet error that effectively prevented me from accessing the entire GuildMag site. At the time of writing this introduction, I still have full access to the entire internet except GuildMag.com. Dutch has been kind enough to act as my secretary for a bit, copying files and pasting my code into the blog so that this (eventually) got published. (On top of that, we had a date mis-match: I thought we were publishing on the 29th, but Dutch just corrected me and said we were publishing today!)
The full spectrum of writing experience in our community is reflected in this carnival: some old grognards from the “good old days” and some folks who literally started blogging in order to take part in this event. Welcome to the newcomers and a tip of the hat to the grizzled types at the back of the writers’ bar.
Please visit and leave feedback to the writers. With support and encouragement, writers tend to write more, which is good for them and good for the community!

ArenaNet just sent out a tweet to announce their list of retailers for the Guild Wars 2 pre-purchase program. So if you’re looking to pre-purchase Guild Wars 2 and prefer to have a real box, rather than just a code, head over to any of these stores on April 10th:
