SteelSeries Guild Wars 2 Gear Review: Mousepad

A few weeks ago, GuildMag was given the pleasure of reviewing SteelSeries’ Guild Wars 2 headset and mousepad courtesy of SteelSeries and ArenaNet. After playing with both for some time now, I present to you the first part of our verdict on the gear. Read on to find out what we thought about the Guild Wars 2 mousepad.

The Basics

The SteelSeries Guild Wars 2 mousepad we received was the Logo Edition, which is one of three available designs. From a packaging point of view, there’s the usual quality packaging you’d expect from SteelSeries and a small information leaflet and sticker included too. The mousepad itself is based upon SteelSeries’ popular QcK range (fun fact: the QcK series of mousepads have been used more than any other mousepad in the world to win gaming competitions and tournaments) and measures 10.6”x12.6”x0.8”. It uses non-slip rubber for the base and a quality cloth for the top surface with a high quality design printed on it.

Testing it Out

We tested the mousepad using the Corsair Vengeance M90 laser mouse. Mousepads can be overlooked when choosing what kit you want to use on your computer, but they’re an essential part of any gamer’s gear. A good mousepad will allow for easy and precise movements of your mouse whilst itself not moving an inch, giving you complete control over your actions – and I’m happy to report that the SteelSeries Guild Wars 2 mousepad does just that. The mouse glides over the top with great ease and I have yet to experience any issues – though I’m not guaranteeing you won’t. Prior to using this, my mousepad was a bog standard Belkin WaveRest Gel which I’d picked up in a sale. Compared to the Guild Wars 2 one, running my mouse over it feels like a much longer process and you truly notice the difference in how easily it glides along.

The one minor negative that I can draw from the mousepad is its size: coming in at one of the larger mousepads I’ve seen, not everyone will have space for it. Check the measurements carefully to make sure you have room before you purchase. For those that do have sufficient room, having the freedom to move your mouse in a large area feels great.

The Verdict

The SteelSeries Guild Wars 2 mousepad has a lot going for it. Not only does it look great and feel well made, but gliding your mouse over it is smooth, easy and practical. It’s priced competitively too: speaking for UK prices, the mousepad is priced at around £12 from Amazon UK , and according to the SteelSeries website, for America it’s $14.99. For something that looks this good and truly works, you can’t go far wrong. Just make sure you have the room for it, or you may end up draping half of it over your desk.
