ArenaNet is starting to ramp-up its beta testing it would seem. This week will see a WvW Borderlands stress test on Thursday, July 9, and those who’ve pre-purchased Heart of Thorns will be able to beta test the revenant profession from noon Pacific time (UTC -7) Friday, July 10 through noon Pacific time Monday, July 13. Stronghold PvP mode will also be available to all players for another round of beta testing this weekend. Though the WvW stress test is an invitation-only event running from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific time, non-invitees will be able to follow the action on the official Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel.
Revenant beta testing will take place on live servers in the current game, and will be available to take into all game modes – PvE, PvP, and WvW. Colin Johanson’s announcement today about revenant beta testing included this statement:
Though the trend these days is often more to treat beta events as simply marketing sneak peeks, we very much believe in having beta events that mean much more. We want to let you experience vertical slices of the final game experience; we’re going to listen to your thoughts and suggestions, we’re going to iterate on the experience, and only when we love it will we ship the expansion. These are real beta tests, and you have the real opportunity to help shape Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns with your feedback.
The community is responding positively to this news, though the wording here does seem to imply that the release date for Heart of Thorns is still far in the future. That aside, it seems we’re now closer to having actual Heart of Thorns beta weekends, and that this revenant preview, along with the WvW Borderlands and Stronghold PvP betas, are preparing paths for them.
Colin also took to reddit to clarify that revenant beta characters will “be pre-geared, level 80, with full hero points earned and your inventory will have a bunch of different gear options available you can swap to if you like.” This sounds very much like what we’ve seen already in previous beta and demo versions of Heart of Thorns, and it is likely that we’ll see revenants in Celestial armor and dolyak runes again to keep the testing environment somewhat controlled. Along with access to all game modes, revenants will also have access to the recently revealed Ventari legend.
For those looking to test Stronghold again, ArenaNet have added Conquest or Stronghold queue preferences and are also including their recently announced Mists Champions to the game mode. Turai Ossa will be available to all players, and those who’ve pre-purchased Heart of Thorns will also have access to two other champions.
This should be a fun weekend for Guild Wars 2 players! If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to pre-purchase Heart of Thorns, now may be the time to act.
