Mordremoth’s Might

To the people of Tyria,

The war against the Elder Dragon Mordremoth rages onward here in the Maguuma Wastes. We lose soldiers every day, but for every soldier lost, we send hundreds of Mordremoth’s foul minions to the Underworld. That is, if Grenth would even permit such abominations entry.

I currently reside in the ruins of an old fortress, reportedly one of several that lie scattered about the Silverwastes region. The troops call it “Red Rock Bastion,” though I don’t see how this distinguishes it in any way as the Maguuma Wastes feature liberal amounts of red sandstone as far as the eye can see. However, it is a very intriguing ruin. I’ve been meaning to pester the Priory scholars about its origins, but that will have to wait until the next supply caravan arrives and I can travel safely back to Camp Resolve. What I have been able to deduce on my own is that the outlaws we encountered may have attempted to take up residence here for a short time as the sand in and around the place is littered with their ugly emblems. Apart from those, however, all paraphernalia that could provide us with information on the origins of these ruins have been seized by the Pact for examination.

My purpose here at Red Rock is to observe the Pact in action first hand, and it is truly an exhilarating experience! There is seemingly no end to Mordremoth’s twisted experiments, and each creature he sends is more gruesome and dastardly than the last! Hordes of these sinister creatures assault the fort ceaselessly and, as a result, we must have defenders up on the walls around the clock, burning the creatures to ash with vast mechanical contraptions that belch forth columns of flame. However, the most difficult problem to deal with are the gargantuan Modrem husks that hurl massive boulders at the fort from afar, attempting to bring down the walls. I had no idea dragon minions possessed such intelligence! For now, they remain kept at bay by highly skilled Pact battlemages that hurl massive fireballs at them from the wall tops. However, several of the elementalists filling that role have been killed, and those who remain are exhausted. For now, the walls remain intact, but I know not how much longer they will hold up. If we do not receive reinforcements soon, I fear the walls will fall and open battle will ensue.

With all due respect,

Ellis Knox
