To participate in our current free trial event, just go here to create a free trial account, verify your email address, and download the game client.

When does the free trial begin and end?

The current Guild Wars 2 free trial begins at 12:01 AM PDT on Thursday, September 25, 2014 and ends at 11:59 PM PDT on Sunday, October 1, 2014.

How do I install the game?

Just follow these easy steps:

  1. Go to
  2. Log in using your Guild Wars account information
  3. In the Download Client tab, click Download
  4. Start the game any time after 12:01 AM PDT on Thursday, September 25, 2014

If I played in a previous free trial event, can I participate in the current free trial?

If you played in any of our previous free trial events, you’re invited too! Your former free trial account will be active for the September 25- October 1 event. To prepare, just update your game client by double-clicking the Guild Wars 2 icon on your desktop, or go to and sign in to download and install the game again!

What if I can’t remember the password for the account I used the last time I played in a free trial?

Our Customer Support Team does not have access to your previous credentials. If you have access to the e-mail address you used in a previous free trial, you can try resetting your password here.

If you do not have access to your previous e-mail address, or are unable to successfully reset your password, you will need to create a new trial account using a different e-mail address than the one used in a previous trial event.

How do I convert my trial account to a full game account?

There are two ways to upgrade your trial account.
Option 1: Upgrading In-Game
Please note: Using the “Upgrade to Full Account” option in-game allows you to purchase the Guild Wars 2 Digital (Standard) Edition code only. You may purchase an upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition through the Black Lion Trading Company.
You can upgrade your trial account by clicking the “Upgrade to Full Account” option in-game at any time during the trial event, which will guide you through purchasing Guild Wars 2 Serial Code. Here are the instructions:

  1. Log into your trial account and click the “Upgrade to Full Account” option.
  2. Choose your payment option and enter your billing information to complete your purchase.
  3. Once your purchase is completed, your trial account will be upgraded to the full version (Standard Edition).

You may need to log out and log back in to see the change.
Option 2: Upgrading through the Registration Website
You can upgrade your trial account by going to the Guild Wars 2 registration site at any time during the trial event, or after it is over. First, you will need to purchase a Guild Wars 2 Serial Code from either our website or from an authorized retailer. Once you have purchased your retail serial code, please follow these instructions:

  1. Go to
  2. Click the “Link Account” button that is under the option to create a new account.
  3. Enter your serial code in the box provided.
  4. Enter your existing trial account login name and password.
  5. Click the “Next” button.
  6. Follow the additional prompts to upgrade the existing account.

Why can’t I access some aspects of the game on my Trial account?

In order to keep the Free Trial enjoyable for everyone, we’ve placed some restrictions on what characters on Trial accounts can do. For example, to minimize gold spamming, Trial characters can only whisper and send mail to people who have added them to their Friends list. Map chat, sales on the Trading Post, Gems, and WvW battlegrounds (excluding the Edge of the Mists) are also restricted.
