We Want YOU! Searching for New Team Members

It’s been two days since we published our future vision for GuildMag, and tomorrow we’ll be publishing our first lore vignette (but more on that later). In our plans outlining the future, we briefly mentioned that we’re looking to expand our team, and so here it is; we’re sending out a call to arms to anyone interested in becoming a GuildMag team member. We’re actively seeking editors, designers, artists and writers to join our fantastic team of volunteers! So if you’ve always wanted to participate in the Guild Wars community, and are a dedicated individual, we might just have a position that suits you! Read further for a description of each of the roles on offer and how to apply.

Position: Website Manager

Description: As website manager, you are responsible for the day-to-day running of the GuildMag website. Your responsibilities include ensuring all website elements work correctly, ensuring all pages are updated, technical support for any website-related issues our team members or users may be having and layout redesigns whenever prompted. At the time of this being published, we are looking to redesign the layout of our website and how it functions to provide a better user experience for all. We have a strong concept in mind and are looking for somebody who is able to carry out this vision within an alloted time frame.

Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must fit all of the criteria below.

  • You have an excellent understanding of XHTML, CSS, PHP, SQL and JavaScript.
  • You have a reasonable working knowledge of image editing software and a general eye for good design.
  • You have a good understanding of WordPress as a CMS and are able to create functioning layouts using WordPress-related syntax.
  • You have a dedication to be an active member of the team that contributes to team discussions on a regular basis.
  • You are easy to contact, whether that be through regularly checking your GuildMag forum personal messages or any other method of communication.
  • You have an example of a website, layout or any other related piece of work that you have created yourself.

Bonuses: You do not have to fit any of the below criteria in order to apply, though it may be beneficial if you do. Application acceptance is not based on whether or not you can comply with these.

  • You have a strong knowledge of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.
  • You have an active presence in the Guild Wars (2) community

Position: Designer

Description: As a designer you’re responsible for the look and feel of the website and magazine. Your main responsibility will be the design of the pages in our magazines, though occasional graphics work for images around the website may not be uncommon. You will work in collaboration with the writers in deciding upon the final design of each article to create designs that are both practical and visually pleasing.

Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must fit all of the criteria below.

  • You have a strong knowledge of image editing software and a general eye for good design.
  • You have some knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • You have strong communicative skills and are able to compromise with the needs of a writer.
  • You have an ability to work to deadlines.
  • You have a dedication to be an active member of the team that contributes to team discussions on a regular basis.
  • You are easy to contact, whether that be through regularly checking your GuildMag forum personal messages or any other method of communication.
  • You are able to provide examples of your work detailing both your image editing and HTML/CSS language abilities.

Bonuses: You do not have to fit any of the below criteria in order to apply, though it may be beneficial if you do. Application acceptance is not based on whether or not you can comply with these.

  • You have a strong knowledge of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.
  • You have an active presence in the Guild Wars (2) community.
  • Your English equates to the native level.

Position: Artist

Description: Artists are responsible for the creation of images on the website. This can come in many forms: images to go along with our website articles (think fan fiction pieces, editorials etc), special artistic pieces for entertainment purposes (think comic strips, fan-drawn concept art etc) or anything in between! This is a very flexible position and open to interpretation; if you think you can contribute something visual towards the website, get in touch about this role.

Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must fit all of the criteria below.

  • You have a strong knowledge of image editing and creation software and a general eye for good design.
  • You are a creative individual with unique ideas.
  • You have strong communicative skills and are able to compromise with the needs of a writer (second part only applicable if creating images for articles).
  • You have an ability to work to deadlines (only applicable if creating images for articles).
  • You have a dedication to be an active member of the team that contributes to team discussions on a regular basis.
  • You are easy to contact, whether that be through regularly checking your GuildMag forum personal messages or any other method of communication.
  • You are able to provide examples of your work.

Position: Editor

Description: As an editor, you’re responsible for proofreading all articles that are published both to our website and to our magazines. Together with LittleBoat (Head Editor) and the rest of the editing team, you make sure that all articles are checked on their grammar and structure, whilst keeping all suggested changes in keeping with the writer’s personal style.

Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must fit all of the criteria below.

  • Your English equates to the native level.
  • You’ve got a good sense for grammar and can also combine this with the personal writing style of the writers.
  • You have an ability to work to deadlines.
  • You have a dedication to be an active member of the team that contributes to team discussions on a regular basis.
  • You are easy to contact, whether that be through regularly checking your GuildMag forum personal messages or any other method of communication.
  • You have an example of a piece of writing you have created or edited yourself (or alternatively you are willing to create one upon request).

Position: Writer

Description: A writer for GuildMag has two responsibilities: writing for our next issue of the magazine and writing articles for our website. As a writer, you are not limited to what kind of articles you can write (i.e. if you only want to do some for the magazine, that’s fine by us) and have a broad spectrum of types of article to choose from, whether it be a lore-based weekly blog for the website, an editorial post for the website or a one-off article for the next issue of the magazine – or anything else you can think of. All writers have vast freedom in what they want to write about, and there are often frequent discussions amongst writers on our forum where they bounce ideas back and forth, but please do remember that all content must be Guild Wars(2)-related.

Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must fit all of the criteria below.

  • Your English equates to the native level.
  • You’ve got a good sense for grammar and a strong personal writing style that’s both entertaining and easy to read.
  • You have an ability to work to deadlines.
  • You have a dedication to be an active member of the team that contributes to team discussions on a regular basis.
  • You are easy to contact, whether that be through regularly checking your GuildMag forum personal messages or any other method of communication.
  • You have an example of a piece of writing you have created yourself (or alternatively you are willing to create one upon request).
